Oregon Armed Forces Day- 2008.

On May 15th, this year they held a display at the Capitol Mall to thank the Oregon National Guard for their service top their country and state, at home and overseas.

It was a warm, plesant and sunny day that added to the atnosphere and spirit of the day.

There were a varity of military vehicles on the Captiol Mall including the Humvee.

An 8 wheeled troop carrier, a little different to the classic cars dispalyed at the capitol recently!

With the price of fuel these days, I'd hate to pay to fill the tank! Pumping up the tires by hand, wouldn't be much fun as the children had climbing in and out!

The Blackhawk Helicopter drew plenty of interest from the crowds who came along for the event.

These choppers, based in Salem, often fly over our house. >The Salem based unit that operate these choppers were deployed overseas for in excess of a year in 2009.

The Oregon Air National Guard have F15 Eagle fighters based in Portland, sharing the runway with Portland International Airport.

This fire truck, based their to support the fighters was brought to Salem to be included in the display.

Another of the high lights of the day was the firing of artillery for the traditional 21 gun salute.

The gun crew looked impressive in their dress uniforms. Ibelieve it was a 21 gun slaute!

To get my pictures, I watched for, and followed as close as I could, the National Guard's official photographer.

The smoke and noise was quite pronounced and made for an impressive display.

Included in the units based in and around Salem there an Engineering Batalion.

I suspect this heavy truck complete with crane belongs to that unit.

Current military vehicles were not the only vehicles on display.

These historical vehicle from a local museum were also present.

I think one of the most anticipated display was the fly over of four F15 Eagle fighter air craft.

My only disapointment was that the jets only made one pass!
